A day at the coast

This weekend, despite the freezing cold weather, was spent at the coast. Me and my family went for a walk along Southwold's pier and then into the town center. Southwold is a lovely place to go for a walk along the beach, visit the pier and check out the chic, little shops. It really is the perfect place to go, especially on a Sunday and especially as a family. Yes it's December and yes it was absolutely freezing however, it was lovely to get out as a family as well. We had a light lunch at the Adnam's Cafe halfway, mainly in order to warm up and it worked. It also had great food!

The pictures above are just a few I snapped whilst walking along the sea front, using my iPhone. It would have been the perfect time to take my camera however, with 4 young nieces and nephews my hands were slightly tied. So I just quickly snapped away on my phone. I do love this time of year, and despite the temperature, I really love going for walks. It's a great way to get outside, get some air and take some photos - which I don't get to do all that often!

I hope you enjoy the photos and this quick little post :-)

Everyday Make Up | Autumn

I don't tend to change up my make up that much according to the time of year, however I also thought it was a long time since I shared my current make up routine anyway so I thought it would be a perfect time. The only thing that majorly changes is my base/foundation and mainly the colour, due to living the cold UK.

My all time favourite foundation is Rimmel Wake Me Up, currently I'm still using my 'Summer' shade but it's very nearly out now so a new one will be purchased! If you've never tried this foundation then I recommend you do, it honestly makes me feel good in my skin - even on those bad days! Another staple for me in the colder months, is a bronzer. As mentioned, I need a lighter shade of foundation but I still like to add some colour to my face. This one from Bourjois is matte which is even better for Autumn. I don't like to over do the bronzer, for my every day make up, but I definitely like to put some life back into my place.

My last post was all about my recent purchases from L'Oreal, which you can read all about here. All the products mentioned have made it into my everyday make up routine now and I'm really enjoying all three of them. L'Oreal is definitely one of my favourite high street make up brands.

As I said, not much changes in my make up routine between seasons, but all of these products photographed are really great. They all work really well for me and this every day make up line up is my favourite. Let me know what your favourite everyday products are and whether or not they are featured in my routine.

L'Oreal Haul & Reviews

It had been a little while since I had purchased any new make up and I've been trying to 'shop my stash' a little bit more recently. However, I was in need of a new primer and mascara, as both of mine were shortly running out. So I headed to the Boots website and took advantage of the L'Oreal 3 for 2 offer. All of the products I picked up were new to me which got me excited to try them out.

Firstly I picked up, what I believe to be, their new Miss Hippie mega volume mascara. I love L'Oreal mascaras, that I have previously tried, so I had high hopes for this one also. The brush is big, which I personally like, as I feel it grabs more of your lashes in one stroke. I am enjoying using this mascara currently but it's definitely not one of my favourites from L'Oreal.

I then picked up their Infallible mattifying primer, which I had heard many good things about. I have a super oily t zone so anything that claims to mattify that is great, if it works of course. I do really like this primer and it does keep my face matte for a reasonable amount of time. However, after a few hours my t zone does become oily again and I do find the need to blot my face. This is obviously no fault of the primer, and I do really like it, I just maybe would like a primer to keep my skin matte for longer. Saying that, even though my t zone gets oily I find this primer to keep my make up in place.

Finally I picked up the True Match concealer, again as I had heard so many good things and in due course I knew I would need a new concealer. So I thought I would give this one a go. I've tested this on both my blemishes and under my eyes, and I can say that it works great on both areas. I believe I picked up the shade Vanilla, which is brightening for under my eyes and actually a good shade for my face as it's coming up to Winter. It's super blendable and lightweight which I like.

That's it for my little 3 for 2 L'Oreal haul. If I purchased any products which you have tried and tested, then let me know your thoughts on them. And also your favourite other L'Oreal products, as I love L'Oreal as a brand and would love to try different products from them.

Home Decor Update

After moving in to my first home, I said I wanted to photograph and write more home and lifestyle type blog posts. Since moving out, my house has been slightly upside down every now and then, with painting, decorating, new carpets etc. Therefore, it's been pretty tricky to actually photograph anything without half painted background walls or basically without a mess. However, recently I've purchased a couple more decorative pieces from here, there and everywhere that I thought I would share with you.

Recently I've been shopping in T K Maxx and B&M and have found some great bargains. Both of these shops are perfect for finding cheap, discounted home decor items. The mirror pictured was on sale for only £10 and I couldn't resist putting it up in my hall way, and yes that's my beautiful new grey carpet in the background ;-) I've been looking for a, relatively decorative, key holder for a while now and had been struggling. Until I went to T K Maxx and found this lovely one for only £8. My spare car keys may look ugly in this picture, but I love the actual holder as some of the other ones I had seen were just plain wood which were too boring.

Now I also had to feature a picture of my graduation present from my Mum in this blog post, maybe not a home decor but as more of an update. After recently graduating from my BA Honours Degree in Children's Care, Learning and Development, my mum bought me this gorgeous watch from Michael Kors. This is the Ritz Glitz watch in Silver and I am absolutely in love with it. I love bigger, statement watches so this one is right up my street. I could not be thankful enough for this present from my Mum and definitely wasn't expecting anything. I am also thankful that I have completed my degree!

I hope you enjoy having a sneak peak at a few of my home decor items throughout my home and I will definitely attempt to photograph more when I finish painting and decorating. Also when I purchase new items. I'd love to hear your favourite places to purchase home decor items :-)

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti-Blemish System

La Roche Posay is a brand that I have raved about in the past, so when I received this 3 step system as a present, I was over the moon. You get three full sized products within this set, which is amazing, and they're all clearly targeted at blemish prone skin. I've tried several of their products in the past, one of those being the Effalar Duo which I have previously spoken about so I won't go into too much detail about that one. You can read about that particular product here and here.

The second product you receive in this trio is their clarifying toner. I really loved using this product, I felt like it really cleaned my face. It got rid of any left over make up that my cleanser may have left of my face, which was super satisfying. I found this product was also really soothing on my blemishes and also helped with the redness. Over time, after using this product, I would say I saw a difference when I finished using this product. Using a toner is the one of the steps of a 'skin care routine' that I honestly do not normally do. However, I thoroughly enjoyed doing so whilst using this particular toner.

The third product is the purifying foaming gel which is effectively a foaming face wash. Unfortunately this is the product that I don't rate very highly out of the three. I simply found that it did nothing for my skin or my blemishes and I don't really have much else to say about this particular product if I'm honest.

Overall this is a great trio set, I personally just cannot warm to the face wash however, it may work for others. I cannot rate the Effaclar Duo enough, it is by far my favourite La Roche Posay product and if you haven't tried it already then you definitely should. Let me know your favourite La Roche Posay products, as I would definitely like to try some newbies!

The Devil Wears Prada | Book Review

I love a good read, especially when there's a sequel. When you think of The Devil Wears Prada, I bet your mind goes to the film, mine definitely did. I absolutely love the film and Anne Hathaway is one of my favourite actresses. But quite a while ago now, I discovered the book to this film and that the book has a sequel.

Normally I tend to prefer reading the book before watching the film however, that was not the case with this particular book. It had been a while since I had seen the film when I began reading the book, so I had to settle for that. As I mentioned, I love the film so the book actually had a lot to live up too in my eyes. I actually really enjoyed the book and yes, I still would have liked to read it first but it was very similar to the film, with not much missed out which is what I normally find. If you haven't seen the film, or read the book, then it's about a girl called Andrea who goes to work for Runway magazine but turns out to have the boss, Miranda, from hell. The second book carries on Andrea's journey as she works her way up the magazine ladder, forming new friendships and relationships, but Miranda is still making appearances.

If you love fashion, magazines and an easy read then these books are for you. Also if you were like me and had just watched the film, you won't be disappointed reading the book afterwards.

Direct Cosmetics Haul & Reviews

I was recently contacted by the lovely people at Direct Cosmetics and was able to choose some products to review for you guys. They offer a whole range of brands on their website, which is definitely worth checking out.

As I said, I was able to select which products I received which I was thrilled about. Firstly I picked up the Lacoste Touch of Pink solid perfume which is just a perfect size for your bag. I picked this because I remember my sister using this perfume when I was younger so it took me back. I actually really like the smell and it's perfect for those little touch ups on the go. I then picked the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream lip balm, which is something I've wanted to try for a while. It's a really thick balm but applies smoothly. I like to apply this before I go to sleep to keep my lips hydrated. I also think this product will be perfect for the coming Winter months. I then picked a NYC nail varnish in a deep coral shade, which I actually think will be great for the Autumnal months, as it's not too vibrant.

I then picked up the L'Oreal Youth Code Luminizer. This product intrigued me when I was browsing products and a serum is something I was missing from my skin care routine. I don't necessarily need this product for the 'youth' side, but there's nothing like starting early! I loved the illuminating aspect of this product as that's something that's difficult to get in the colder months. I then got another product from L'Oreal and it's their Triple Active day moisturiser. My current moisturiser is practically out so I was in need of a new one. Again as it's getting colder, my skin tends to get drier so I think this product will be a great match for my skin. It is a light moisturiser however, so if you need something heavier this one may not be for you.

I then got a Sally Hansen product which I've never seen before and it's the Colour Quick Dry brush nail varnish. This really intrigued me as I've never seen a nail varnish like this before, as I mentioned. It has a brush on the end of it and therefore makes application simple. I picked this lovely truffle shade too which again will be great for Autumn, which I know I keep saying! Finally I picked the Matrix Total Results Heat Resist Conditioner. I'm really trying to not apply too much hear onto my hair currently and I'm doing pretty well! However, when I do use heat I can really feel the affect on my hair. This conditioner is great at making my hair feel smooth and like I've never put heat onto it.

That's it for my Direct Cosmetics haul and first impressions reviews! I was super impressed with all the products I picked and have now tested out. I'm grateful to the lovely people at Direct Cosmetics and I would definitely recommend you check out their website :)

Oral B 3D White Luxe Perfection Toothpaste & Whitening Accelerator

For a while now I've been wanting to delve into trying out more and new teeth whitening products. Bar the normal everyday whitening toothpaste and mouthwash, I haven't tried that many other products to help naturally whiten my teeth. A while ago, I was browsing the Boots website trying to pick which product(s) to try.

I came across this duo of products from Oral B and they were on offer so I thought I would give these a go to begin with. Basically, you brush your teeth with the 3D White Luxe toothpaste and then brush them again using the Whitening Accelerator. I'm not sure on all the logistics behind these products but the accelerator supposedly has something in it to speed up the whitening process within the toothpaste.

I have now completely used up both of these products and can say that I thoroughly enjoyed using them both. However, there were some down sides to these products. I did see some improvement in the whiteness of my teeth when using these products, but it wasn't like an amazing transformation. I've heard many teeth whitening products can make your teeth sensitive, luckily for me, neither of these two products made my teeth sensitive. The down side for me was having to brush my teeth, theoretically, four times a day. Not for the extra time, but occasionally it made my gums sore which was a pain, literally.

As much as I enjoyed using these products, I'm not sure I would re-purchase them. Personally, I would like to spend a bit more money and see better results. I know results can take time etc, but that's just me being impatient, ha ha!

Empties #10

I actually enjoy hanging onto my empties to then share on my blog for you guys, but also for me to look back on and think "yeah, I actually really loved using that product". Within this bunch there are definitely some staple products which I would highly recommend.

Firstly the Dove Derma Spa Summer Revived Fake Tan which I purchased after watching Anna Saccone's fake tan routine video. This is now one of my favourite fake tan products and I've written a full blog post all about it here. Anything to help with spots/blemishes is right up my street and the Garnier Pure Active Anti-Spot Exfoliating Scrub. It's a really invigorating scrub which really feels like it's doing something to help my skin out. Again you can read more here. Another great spot product is the Out of Trouble mask by Origins. This I personally find really soothing for my spots and it also helps calm down the redness.

The Urban Decay Naked Concealer is such an amazing concealer. It's obviously slightly more expensive and there are great concealers which you can purchase in the drug store. However, I do really adore this one for everything - spots, blemishes and those under eye bags. Next the Rimmel Super Curler Mascara which is aimed at holding and improving the curl of your lashes. This is quite a natural looking mascara which I love for everyday. I'm not sure it really helps with the curl of my lashes, I did still curl them myself, but it was a great mascara.

Jimmy Choo Flash Perfume is a new favourite of mine. I got this on one of Boots flash deals, when it was half price. It was a bit of a whim, as I had never smelt it before, but I absolutely loved it. Finally I picked up this SPAtopia Argan Oil Body Scrub from TK Maxx. I was simply in need of a new one and spotted this one so thought I would give it a go. I'd never even heard of the brand before but now I've fully used the product up, it was a really amazing scrub. It was invigorating and actually felt like it was getting rid of all the dead skin.

There we have it, that's another one of my empties posts all done. There are some great products featured in this post which I would really like to re-purchase in the future. If you've tried any of these products before, then I'd love to hear your thoughts about them in the comments below!

Book Review | All the Bright Places

I had heard a lot of things about this book, not in detail, just how good it was from the people who had read it. Amazon were doing an offer of 3 paperback books for £10, this one included, so I thought I would take up the offer and give it a read. So, I didn't have much of an idea of what to expect until I read the blurb which gave me a very slight insight.

The sentence, from WHSmith, which just about sums up this books is.. "This is a compelling and beautiful story about a girl who learns to live from a boy who wants to die". There are two main characters, Violet and Finch, who couldn't be more different from one another. It's a very well written and easy to read book, which tells the story from both characters point of view. Especially from the view point of Theodore Finch, who has a mental illness. This review, also from WHSmith, gives you a bit more of an insight into the story..

"Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him. Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.
When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the ‘natural wonders’ of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself – a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them.
But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink. How far will Violet go to save the boy she has come to love?"
Overall this is such a great story, easy to follow, and really gets you thinking from both perspectives. It's written in such a way that helps you to understand the mental illness which the character has, therefore this helps you really get into the book much faster and more in depth. If you haven't read this book then I would definitely recommend you do.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+ Unifiant

I have a fond love for all things La Roche-Posay, so recently when they sent me this new product, I couldn't help but jump for joy. The Effaclar Duo+ is one of my all time favourite skin care products and a product that I constantly repurchase. So when I read about this product, which is ultimately the Effaclar Duo+, however this Unifiant product comes with a sheer coverage.

I got super excited when reading about this product - my favourite skin care product WITH coverage? It couldn't get much better hey. I've been using this product now for a few weeks and have really been enjoying it. It's super easy to apply, I have just been using my fingers but a brush or sponge would work really well too. As I mentioned the coverage is sheer and unfortunately my skin has been playing up recently so when using this product, I have used concealer over the top. The concealer blends smoothly over the top of this product too, which is great considering I need more coverage at the moment.

As I said, I've been mainly using my fingers to apply this and it applies and blends easily too. The colour is pretty much perfect for my skin tone and to be honest I'm actually not sure how many shades this product comes in. It lasts on my skin for a relatively long period of time but does need touching up throughout the day, due to having an oily t-zone. I've really been enjoying this product though, especially on the weekends when I may not be doing a lot and just chilling at home. However, when going for a night out - when I like to have more coverage - then this product isn't my go to.

I'd definitely recommend this product, especially if you're also a fan of the original Effaclar Duo+, as this Unifiant product is great!

Revlon Colorstay Concealer

I purchased this product quite a few months ago now and when I first tried it, I didn't like it. So it was one of those products that went to the back of my draw, until recently. My last concealer ran out so I ventured to my draw and thought I would pull this one out and give it another go. When I first purchased this concealer, I had heard that it was similar to the Urban Decay Naked Concealer which was actually the one I was using before this one.

I must say I'm glad that I pulled this back out of my draw for round two because I'm really enjoying it. I really don't know why I didn't like it to begin with but my skin has changed recently, which is the only reason I can think of. Anyway, I have this in the shade light which seems to be the perfect shade for my skin tone. I use this on my face to conceal spots etc, rather than under my eyes and find that it really does conceal them well. Just as well in fact as the Urban Decay concealer, I can see where people are coming from when they say this is a dupe for it.

This concealer conceals all kinds of spots, blemishes, marks on my face and keeps them concealed for a really decent amount of time. I'm really enjoying using it at the moment as part of my every day make up routine. My face is having a bit of a mad spotty moment recently, so having a decent concealer, that you can rely on, really just makes me feel a bit better going about my day. If you haven't tried this concealer then I would definitely recommend it, especially if you haven't tried the Urban Decay one as this is very similar.

Tips and Tricks #10

A chore all beauty lovers hate is cleaning their brushes however, having clean brushes is just one of the best things. Considering the amount of brushes we all use, it gets to that point when you literally have no clean ones left and simply have to go through the cleaning process.

Ages ago, when I went to Paris, I picked up their Daily make up brush cleaner which has really helped cut down the time it takes to clean my make up brushes. It comes in a small handy travel size, although I believe they also do a larger bottle. It's a simple spray which you spray directly onto your make up brushes. I then use either a muslin cloth or a flannel and swish my make up brush around in circles. It's quite satisfying seeing all of the make up come off your brush onto the flannel. I keep reapplying the spray and swishing my brush round until no more make up comes off on the muslin cloth. It really is that simple and easy and honestly cuts down the time spent actually 'washing' your brushes in the sink.

I can't fully remember the price of this product, but I'm pretty sure it was really affordable. Of course the only trouble is ordering from Sephora but if you're close to making an order, then quickly pop this product in your basket, you won't regret it!

Current Hair Care Favourites

Since recently braving the chop, I've also recently been trying out some new hair care products which have been in my stash for a little while. I love trying out new hair products as I do have my staples however, it is nice to delve into something new. These three products photographed have been staples in my hair care routine recently, some new and some old.

Firstly the Mark Hill Bedazzled Anti-Humidity Shine Spray (what a mouthful). I've had this in my stash for a little while now but had never really tried and tested it out properly. So recently I pulled it out and gave it a good old bashing for a period of time and guess what? Yes, you guessed it, I love it! It's such a simple product to use, I simply spray it all over my hair with literally no care in the world. Once I've covered all my hair, I just run my fingers through it and voila, finished. It smells divine, which is such a bonus, and just keeps all those fly aways in place with added shine. It's great for those "can't be bothered hair days" when it's freshly washed and I can't be bothered to style it - this spray just makes my hair look like I've actually made a little effort. It's also great for those "sleek hairstyles" as it puts all hairs back in their right place.

Next the L'Oreal Elvive Colour Protect Conditioning Protect Spray, another great mouthful. This product is a firm staple for me and for any of you who also suffer with knotty hair. This is a God send and just makes my hair so much more manageable. I simply spray this all over my hair, after washing, and my tangle teezer just glides through effortlessly. It also leaves my hair feeling extra soft due to the conditioning elements in this spray. I struggled to find the perfect detangling spray but this one definitely ticks all the boxes.

Finally the Avon Advance Techniques Moroccan Argan Oil which I have used before but that was a long time ago. My mum actually got this free with an order she placed recently however, she passed it along to me and I took it with open arms. I remember loving this product in the past and my love for it remains. I simply use 1-2 pumps of this product, again after washing my hair, and apply it just to my roots. It really does help keep the ends of my hair in tact and not split. Again, this product also helps keep my hair super soft in between washes.

Overall these three products are firmly stapled into my current hair care routine and really seem to be working well for me and my newly, short hair. If you also love any of these products then let me know but I'd also love to hear your hair care favourites which I may not have previously tried :-)

Vaseline Spray & Go Body Moisturiser

I'll admit it, I am lazy when it comes to moisturising my body. With it being Summer however, I have been fake tanning a lot more and yes fake tan is still needed in Summer in the UK! So, since fake tanning more I've found the need to moisturise my body more in between applications.

The moisturiser I've been reaching too is this one from Vaseline. I actually brought this a while back, when it first came out however, have only just recently began using it. This is such an easy moisturiser to use, I can't believe I haven't used it earlier than recently. One of the annoying things about moisturising, for me, is the sticky feeling you get left on your hands. I know that's not the biggest deal but you do not get that at all with this product.

My only tip is to either stand on a towel or carpet, as the floor can get pretty slippery if not when doing your legs especially. It only takes a couple of minutes to sink into the skin and you're ready to go! This product is definitely a new staple for me due to it being so easy to use. Another great thing is that even when spraying those 'awkward' places, you can hold it upside down and it still sprays!

Definitely check out this product if you're after a new body moisturiser that's different, yet super simple and does the job. Within this range there are different 'scents', the one I have is cocoa which smells lovely.

MIA: Moving Out

The reason I've been practically non-existent recently is because I have finally moved into my own home. Life without certain luxuries has been different, one of those being broadband, hence the lack of posts on practically any social media. To make matters worse, I've also used up all my data on my monthly phone contract and with just moving house, spare money is non-existent also. Therefore I've just been a bit MIA and busy with both moving out and work.

Minus the slight down falls, moving out has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time now, so being able to finally do it is amazing for me. Yes, it's definitely been one of the most stressful times of my life but it has been worth it of course. I still have a to do list longer than ever but it's so satisfying ticking things off one by one, I do love a good list. As I said, although I have a long way to go, until it's fully the way I want it, it's definitely heading in the right direction and I'm loving it.

I never went away to uni, so have never lived away from my parents. I think that may have been part of the reason why I wanted to move out. I've been saving ever since I can remember, so to be able to buy my own house independently is something I'm proud of myself for. It's such a big step to do alone but I know I'm not actually alone. I haven't moved far away from my family or friends at all however, it just gives me more independence than ever. I remember when I first passed my driving test and everyone was saying "you've got your independence now". Which yes, is 100% correct but living independently is on a whole new level due to the responsibilities. I obviously haven't lived alone for very long yet, it has only been a couple of weeks now, but I'm excited for the future in my new home.

I had been collecting bits for a long time prior to moving in so when it came to it, I was pretty much set. Doing so has definitely helped me, when moving in, as I think it was a lot less hassle. Also doing it so early prior, in stages, meant I wasn't parting with so much money all in one go. This would definitely be my top tip for anyone moving out for the first time. Although I definitely forgot I even had some things and did forget a couple of essentials, lists are everything!

So this is just a little update to explain where I've been and I'm finally getting my broadband go live tomorrow, so will be back up and running very soon! Above are just a few decor photos that I have posted on Instagram since moving in. If you have recently moved out, for the first time, then I'd love to hear how your getting on? :-) I'm thinking about doing more home decor, living alone and first home posts etc in the future too, so keep your eyes peeled for those if it interests you!
