TMI Tag

Today I'm embracing the TMI tag on my blog. I'm sure it has been done before on a blog although after answering the questions which mentioned YouTube (which I do technically have and have done this tag over there) I wasn't so sure. But if I'm honest I wanted a nice easy going post to do today as yesterday I went to the doctors and came out with Tonsillitis which is so god darn painful :-( so the beauty posts will resume, I just thought this would be a nice alternative for the mid week and something different to what I normally post about. I do enjoy doing a tag post every now and then. Also if you're reading this then I tag you to complete this tag next, go on you know you want to! (And if you do link me to your post so I can have a read!)

Tips & Tricks #2

The second in this, I guess you call it series, of tips and tricks. If you didn't see my last tips and tricks post then you can view that here, where I talked all about baby oil and what you can do with it. Today I wanted to share something that my sister actually recently told me to do. Again it may be something some of you already know but it was new to me so I wanted to share it with you guys in case you don't know.

You're probably thinking Vaseline? What can you do with that? When my sister told me to use this, I was like seriously? But I trusted her, did it and voila it worked well. The suspense must be killing you! If you've been reading my blog for a while then you'll know I suffer with blemish prone skin. It just so happened that when my sister was round a couple of weeks back, I picked one of my pesky spots. Yes I know that's naughty but you know when you do things that you sometimes don't even realise you're doing? Well that's what I done.

Anyway immediately after picking it, it of course started to bleed. Oh boy, this spot was not going to stop bleeding for a long time either. I'd gone through a tissue and decided to come downstairs and was planning on just holding the tissue on it. This is when my sister said "go and put some Vaseline on it"... What? Yes you read right, so off I went back upstairs to my bed side table and popped some Vaseline right onto my spot.

Honestly it stopped bleeding basically straight away, I was shocked. I couldn't believe through all of these spots I've suffered with I didn't know this little trick. So instead of holding a tissue over my face, I now know to just use a small amount of Vaseline on it. You don't need a lot, it doesn't sting at all and works pretty much instantly. I think this is such a great tip and since then I've been using this little trick.

Overall I'm thankful that I now know this tip and will continue to use it in the future whenever I feel the urge to pick a spot that then wants to bleed like a ocean on my face. It's such an easy trick as well as I'm sure most of us girls carry a little tin of Vaseline everywhere with us, or there's a useful one laying at home. I also don't think it matters which Vaseline you use, I'm currently using the Aloe Vera one and it still works like a gem. Have you ever heard of or tried this tip? Let me know! :-)

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy

Firstly I apologise for this post being slightly later than expected but with the overload of uni work to complete at the moment, this post had to take a slight back seat. But do not worry it is now here only a day later than planned. I have literally just finished one essay (two more to go!) so I thought I would write this up now whilst I'm kinda in the type-y mood.

I purchased these Revlon nail varnishes a little while back when I went on a splurge on Boots website, with my Boots card points. I'd previously seen these in store but I was good and told myself I didn't need any more nail varnishes. Which is true but the fact that I was using my Boots points instead of actual money meant that I should buy them right? Gel nails went through a recent phase of being absolutely everywhere. I've only ever had gel nails done once and they really didn't last very long so to be honest I wasn't very impressed. Which meant that when they were all hyped up, I simply wasn't bothered.

But since all of the high street brands have brought out these "at home gel nails without the UV light", I have been slightly pulled in. They all claim the lasting power which is something that pains me the most. When you spend so long painting your nails and then the next day, BOOM, they're chipped. I know the job I work in they're never going to last long anyway but seriously more than a day please! I've always loved Revlon as a brand so when their ones popped up on the Boots website I just went for their ones. No particular reason why, other than trying their products in the past and have always pretty much been great.

I picked up the shade Winning Streak which is a gorgeous vibrant lilac, very spring like I thought. Then you have to also buy the top coat that goes with it, clearly the bottle that does all the magic, you'd hope. When applying I used a base coat also which it doesn't say you need but my nails easily stain so I didn't want to risk that. The brush on these are pretty good, nothing spectacular but they apply easily. I did apply two coats and I believe everyone would need two coats of the colour. It was very opaque after two coats which I liked the look of. Even before applying the top coat, my nails looked super glossy. I then applied the top coat which went on smoothly and waited. I really, really wanted to apply my Seche Vite top coat to help the drying time but I didn't as I didn't want to ruin the combination of nail varnishes. So I waited. And waited. They took forever to dry, I even ended up smudging a couple of nails because I simply got bored and had to do something.

Once they had dried I was impressed with the look of them. They looked super glossy and just like real gels that you'd have done in a salon. I really loved the colour I picked up too and it's definitely one I'll be wearing again throughout spring and summer. The lasting power of this nail combo wasn't all that great if I'm honest. I would say within a couple of days I had chips on a couple of fingers. Yes it can obviously depend on what you're doing and in my job it probably doesn't help that. But I can say that I wasn't very impressed with how long they lasted. I can say that I was impressed with how easily they were to remove though, I simply just used normal nail varnish removed which worked a treat.

Overall I loved the lilac shade I picked up and will definitely be using that again. I will try these two together again and see if they happen to last any longer. I still think I'll get good use out of both of these products but I'm unsure as to whether or not I will buy any more shades from this range. You can buy both products here from Boots, priced at £6.99 each. The shade range I must say is pretty great though! Let me know if you've tried this combo and you're thoughts on it?! :-)

My week in pictures #12

What feels like a very long time ago I used to write my week in pictures posts rather a lot, weekly - you guessed it. I can't tell you why I stopped as I have no idea myself but I do feel like they are great posts. A couple of my favourite bloggers share the pictures they have taken recently and I enjoy reading them. This got me thinking, hence why I'm writing this post today, about starting mine again. Don't fret I have many more beauty posts lined up but I have realised I've done two lifestyle posts in a row. It's fine by me so I'm hoping you guys, as readers, approve too.

So the pictures basically revolve around; my cute westie, my naughty desserts, random pretty flowers, my gorgeous baby nephew and finally everything new that I've been buying recently. A couple of weeks back I just had the serious urge to splurge which was not great for my bank balance. Why does it always seem that when it's nearly payday, you see loads of new things you want/need to buy. Why can't shops wait until payday and then bring them out? This way it may help my bank balance slightly.

I've got a week off work next week and have so much to do it's actually rather stressful. My bedroom is currently in boxes, the walls covered in poly filler and there's dust everywhere. Basically it's a state but it's all in prep for me to redecorate on my week off. I just hate it when it gets to this stage, it's all messy but technically ready to go but you have to wait and live in the mess for a little while longer. I simply just want to get started but the time will come and then I will probably moan even more about the mess! But fingers crossed the out come is better than what it started as. I may take some photos and do a post on the transformation!

I hope you're all having a lovely week, we're half way through the week so not long until the weekend! Let me know if you enjoy reading these posts and leave your links in the comments if you write this type of post :-)

Stanley's 1st Birthday

Today I wanted to share something slightly different but something very special. A year ago today my youngest nephew was born very premature. At that thought many different emotions start to take over and you don't know what to think. There was a time where the future was unknown but 1 year on, thankfully he's one healthy and happy baby boy.

Yesterday my family gathered to celebrate his 1st birthday which was a lovely way to spend a Sunday. It's a nice time to get together as a family and celebrate something special. It's amazing to have seen the progress my nephew has made over the year and continuing into the future. We ate party food, we sang happy birthday, we ate chocolate cake and we had lots of laughs. It was the perfect day and the birthday boy himself seemed to have a great day. Although conked out by the end of the afternoon. Also after trying to bang the birthday cake off of the tray!

I suppose this is just more of a memory post, something to look back on and to share a miracle story with you guys if you have any interest/enjoy lifestyle posts. It's just a quick post but it's special for me to do and one to remember.

Happy Birthday Stanley :-)

MAC Lipstick In Twig

Would you believe me if I said that this MAC lipstick is only my second one ever? Well start believing it. I do love MAC lipsticks but do find them expensive when I can go into Boots and find something similar for a fraction of the price tag. Saying that, if I had the money to buy a MAC one every time then I'm sure I would. I find them very luxurious so it's nice for me to get one every now and then for a treat.

I actually went in hoping to come out with the shade Brave which is a very hyped up shade right now. With that being said, the shade Brave was out of stock so I set to the lipstick stand in search for another shade. The sales woman there was helping me to find another similar shade to Brave and that's how I ended up with this shade. After some deliberation I picked up the shade Twig. It's basically a brown toned version of Brave so yes they're different but not completely different ends of the spectrum.

It's basically an every day, wearable nude. I love lipsticks that you can wear throughout the day but can then also be teamed with heavier eye make up for the evening. I was slightly worried that this would be too dark on me as I have quite pale skin but it works really well. You can tell you have lipstick on but it's so easily worn. This shade also goes with absolutely every outfit so you don't have to change what you're wearing to compensate for the lipstick which is great. The MAC lipstick formulas are great and this one is no different. It's not drying and easily glides on without pulling.

I cannot recommend MAC lipsticks enough but I'm sure you'll all agree with me on that. I definitely still want to get my hands on the shade Brave in the future but I really do love this shade at the moment. I think I will get loads of wear out of it which makes it worth investing in. Let me know you're favourite MAC shades that you think I should look into :-)

Girl Online

A well known girl who has written what now is a well known book. It was super hyped up when this first came out, and even before that. I didn't want to give into the hype straight away so it wasn't until a few weeks back when I actually ordered this book. I was placing an order from Amazon and needed to spend over £10 to get free delivery so I thought why not give into the hype and give it a read. I knew this book was aimed at slightly younger girls than me but I'm all for an easy bedtime read.

The blurb says:
"Penny has a secret.

Under the alias Girl Online, Penny blogs her hidden feelings about friendship, boys, high school drama, her crazy family, and the panic attacks that have begun to take over her life. When things go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets Noah, a gorgeous, guitar-strumming American. Suddenly Penny is falling in love - and capturing every moment of it on her blog.

But Noah has a secret, too, one that threatens to ruin Penny's cover - and her closest friendship - forever."

The story line basically incorporates blogging, friendships and love. I think the story line is great and highlights all these areas well in a positive and negative light. You can tell when reading that this book is aimed at the slightly younger girls but it still made me want to read on. Even though the messages throughout the book aren't really aimed towards me personally, I can see how they are relevant to others.

This book was quite long if I'm honest but the short chapters made it easier to read. Once you got into the book, towards the middle, I was reading a few chapters at a time which meant that the lengthy book wasn't one to go on for months. Like I mentioned this was a super easy read for bedtime when you don't want anything too difficult or scary. Also there is going to be a Girl Online 2 which is set to come out this November.

I'm glad I gave this book a read but it was slightly too easy to read and the messages that came across just weren't all that relevant to me personally, as I said. But I did enjoy reading it and probably will still give into the hype after a while and get the second book. You can buy this book here from Amazon for only £6 at the moment. I'd love to hear if you've read this book and your thoughts on it? :-)

Empties #3

After hoarding all of this lot for quite some time now I thought it was about right that I finally did another empties post. When I was photographing this lot I realised how many hair care items there are included, clearly I had too many in my stash and needed to use some of them up. I still have way too many but hey, what are you going to do about it.

Anyway let's get started. Firstly a sample of the Laura Mercier foundation primer which I received in a beauty box a little while back. I have actually tried this before and I'm not overly in love with it, it's one of those primers that just does the job. It's pretty runny in consistency which is something I'm not a fan of. But it was relatively pleasant to use whilst it lasted but something I would purchase myself.

Next is a small tube of Moroccan argan oil from Natural World. I received this as a present, again a while back, but I really enjoyed using it. You only needed a small amount to work through the ends of your hair and it left them feeling less dead and much more soft. I really love hair oils and how they leave your hair feeling super soft, this one was no exception.

Two Aussie products next and I really do love their hair care range. Firstly the Miracle Recharge Conditioning Spray, this was another present I received for my birthday. If I'm honest it's not probably something I would have picked up myself but I really enjoyed using this product. My hair is pretty thick and gets super knotty, this product helped so much with the knots and detangling. It could also be used on dry or wet hair which makes it a great all round product. It also had many other positives but I mainly loved it for the detangling. Next is the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Treatment, another love of mine. This is actually my second tube of this and it definitely does work miracles. My hair gets dead pretty quickly on the ends and even though this product works so quickly it still does such an amazing job. I hate those hair masks where you have to wait 15+ minutes so this one is always a winner for me.

Next is the L'Oreal Micellar Water which I picked up after hearing a lot of hyped reviews about it. I did enjoy using this product, it was soft on my skin and didn't irritate it. I used it after cleansing for any make up that I may have missed and it worked like a dream. I'm not sure it was the greatest on my dry patches for hydrating them but didn't necessarily harm them. I then used up a small sample of one of my all time favourite perfumes from Ghost. I'm pretty rubbish at describing scents but this one is definitely up in my top three. I like these small samples as they are perfect for throwing into your handbag daily or in your night out bag.

Finally two more hair care products, the first one from Philip Kingsley and it's their Daily Damage Defence. Again something I received from a beauty box and something I loved using. This product had a really nice scent to it which I loved and was just simply an all round product. It covered everything you would want it to when it comes to your hair, making it super easy to use. The final product is from Uniqone All in One Hair Treatment. This product is basically another version of the Philip Kingsley one and is the perfect all rounder. It claims 10 different hair care positives, just what you would want from one spray. I very much enjoyed using both of these sprays.

Overall there are definitely some products I want to repurchase from these empties and get the full size of. On the other hand there are some I wouldn't and that's why the sample sizes are great for trying them out. Let me know if you've tried any of the products I mentioned and your thoughts on them :-)

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint

I used to be so into painting my nails a couple of years back, my schedule changed and now it seems I'm just too busy during the week. But I do like to get painting my nails on the weekends now as they're my free time. It also means that they should stay painted for at least the weekend before going back to work and getting all chipped. But hey ho, two days is better than none.

Recently Barry M have released this collection called "Speedy". Any nail varnish that claims a quick drying time is right up my street. Most in the past have never worked and the only thing recently that has been a life saviour is Seche Vite (you can read my post here). But as soon as I spotted these when browsing the Boots website, one immediately made it into my basket. The shade range all seems pretty nude/pastel at the moment but I'm not sure if anymore are going to be released. I picked up the shade "Pit Stop" which is basically a grey colour, which believe it or not I actually don't have in my collection.

The brush is brilliant, it's square so fits the shape of your nail perfectly in one movement. This made application super easy and painting my nails a breeze. I applied two coats of this nail varnish and it was fully opaque which is great. I hate having to do any more than two coats with any nail varnish. The speed this nail varnish dried at was incredible! It was honestly the quickest drying time nail varnish I have ever used. I didn't let myself do anything drastic to ruin my nails for a little while after painting, but I never do as I don't want to smudge them. But these dried super fast and I could really tell the difference compared to a normal nail varnish. Also this nail varnish lasted so long on my nails without chipping, even whilst at work. This is such a bonus for me as they normally chip within the first two days of me wearing them. This honestly lasted a good 5 days without chipping which is amazing.

For the price you pay, which I believe is £3.99, it's such a great nail varnish. I will definitely be picking up some more on my next trip to Boots. It's also still currently 3 for 2 on all Boots make up so if you're looking to splurge then definitely check these out! You can buy them here and also check out the other shades available. Let me know if you've tried this formula and your thoughts! Hope you've all had a good weekend :-)

Tips & Tricks #1

Having two nieces and two nephews means my home is often full of baby bits for when the come and/or stay over. Baby oil is one of those items and I have a great new use for it that I wish I knew sooner. I will put it out there, I haven't thought up of this tip on my own, you may already have heard of it. But it has really helped me recently so I really wanted to share it with you guys in case you haven't heard of it before.

I suffer with really dry legs and I have done for a really long time. It comes to a point that when it's time to shave my legs it can be painful. Not during shaving but afterwards. They become super itchy, red raw and flaky. It's really not a nice experience and with the warmer weather coming I need to do something about this. That's where baby oil comes into it... An oil is great for locking in moisture all over your body. So recently I've been shaving my legs with this Johnson's Baby Oil and boy has it made a difference. It has honestly changed my legs for the better, also my shaving experience. It's super easy to do and a lot less messier than shaving gel which is a bonus. I just use it exactly the same as I would have done a shaving gel and it works just as well.

My legs feel moisturised, they are not painful and my skin is not shedding. It's such an easy change and great tip that I couldn't not share it with you. So if you're like me and suffer with super dry legs then go and buy yourself some baby oil. It honestly works so well I couldn't believe it. I will now forever continue to use an oil over a shaving gel and now my legs will be summer ready. Now where's the fake tan?!

Feel free to share your favourite tip and tricks in the comments so that everyone can have a read and help each other out :-)

The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil

Another item which I purchased along side my Cleansing Oil is this over night serum from The Body Shop. As I've mentioned I do really like The Body Shop's products and they always have offers on which is another bonus when buying from them, whether it's online or in store. Something else I've been mentioning recently is that my skin has decided to turn really dry in areas. So I wanted something other than a moisturiser for dry skin to help it out.

I'd heard a few good things about this product and I liked the easiness of this product. You simply apply it before you sleep and it then works it's magic. At first I was slightly sceptical about putting an oil on my face, as I still do have oily patches. When I wake up in the morning my face is no different to any other morning which is great. This product clearly sinks in really well to my skin over night, it also does it pretty quickly on application too. It is an oil so can take slightly longer, I do tend to apply this about 5 minutes before my head actually hits the pillow. But once it's on my skin it doesn't feel heavy just obviously slightly oily but that soon goes.

When I do wake up in the morning I can see a difference in my skin. Some of my dry areas can become really quite red and tight but it definitely feels much better after using this product. Although this product does not aim at the redness the flakiness and tight feeling has been released. The dryness is relieved and it makes it much better for the day ahead. Although the dryness is relived it doesn't stay relieved for the whole day unfortunately. It does say 8 hour moisture which I think is slightly over exaggerated and unfortunately I wouldn't say it lasts quite that long. But I do really enjoy using this product and know that my skin will be replenished for a period of time. I must just mention the packaging as it feels really high end. The bottle is a baby pink glass and the little pipette makes it easy to know how much product you are getting out so you don't waste any.

Overall I'm pleased with this product and the results it has had on my skin. I will definitely continue to use this product to help relieve my dry patches as it doesn't phase my oily patches at all which is great. You can buy this product here from The Body Shop for £13 which is slightly on the higher price side but as I said, search for those discount codes to get the price down.

It's All About Asos

Recently I have not been able to get enough of pretty much everything on Asos. There are so many things in my saved items page, which is one thing I love about the Asos website. You can basically save anything from the website onto a saved page and at a later date if you decide you want to buy something you saved, you just click on your saved items and voila! They are all saved there for 60 days. Asos has such a huge range of fashion, accessories, shoes, jewellery, etc. Honestly if you are ever looking for something then I always head over to Asos first. Simply because you can guarantee that you will find it on their website. They have such on trend items such as the denim skirt and monochrome trousers I've featured. The other great thing about Asos is that they have a tall section. If you're like me and find that 'normal' skirts just show off your bum then the tall section is something you should check out. I buy a lot of my skirts and dresses from this section as I know they will be that little bit longer and therefore cover my behind more appropriately.

I'm sure you've all heard of Asos and most of you have probably even ordered from there before but if you haven't then I suggest you get on over to their website. I'm seriously having to hold myself back from ordering from their website right now as my saved items are pretty jam packed! I'd love to know what (if anything) you have your eyes on from Asos at the moment? I also hope you've all had a lovely Easter weekend, I for one do not wish to go back to work tomorrow!

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

I will start this post by saying this purchase was influenced by Amelia Liana and for that I am grateful. I have always loved The Body Shop's stuff previously and this product is no exception. The Body Shop are also great for always having offers on, I actually got 40% off of this product which is an amazing discount.

After using the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish religiously I wasn't really looking for anything new. But after hearing this product being raved about, and with the discount, I just had to buy it. I was sceptical at first as I have an oily t zone and didn't think that putting oil on top of that would even work. But again due to the rave reviews I thought I would give it a go plus the product actually states that it's for all skin types. The packaging is simple, pretty and includes a pump which is always a bonus. This cleansing oil does have a scent to it as the camomile name suggests, it's a lovely fresh scent. It's nothing too overpowering for the evening and is subtle which is perfect.

I can say I am in love with this cleansing oil and it works really well with my skin. I simply just use one pump of this on my dry face and it covers my whole face, therefore this product is going to last me forever. It really easily glides over my face and I massage it in working around my skin. I do this for a couple of minutes before running a muslin cloth under hot water and then wring it out and use it to remove all my make up. This leaves my face feeling super clean and honestly removes all of the dirt and oil from my face. I can't believe how easy this product is to use and how easy it lifts off all my make up from the day.

Overall I'm such a fan of this cleansing oil from The Body Shop and it's definitely on par with my Liz Earle cleanser. For £10 I think it's affordable and as I said there's always a discount code on offer so it's worth checking them out before buying. I would definitely recommend this product no matter what skin type you have as I agree it's perfect for all, especially my dry/oily skin. You can buy the product here from The Body Shop. Let me know if you've tried this product or what you're favourite The Body Shop product is? I hope you're all having a lovely Easter weekend :-)

Elemis Skin Clear Overnight Serum

Another skin care product aimed at spots, aren't you lucky lucky readers. It's actually been a little while since my last one so I thought I would pop this one up next. I've had mixed feelings about the Elemis products I've tried in the past so here I am trying another. As I've mentioned my skin type has changed recently but unfortunately I'm still getting those pesky spots. I'm all for easy skin care steps and this product is exactly that.

Firstly the product again has a pretty strong smell, alike to the other products I've tried. I do find that this one disappears pretty quickly though so I can manage it. The product itself is simply a serum that you apply before you go to bed and it works on your skin overnight. It's aimed to help clear blemishes all whilst you're sleeping. The consistency of the product is actually quite runny so it can be tricky to apply. But once you get the hack of being fast then all is ok. It doesn't take long to sink into the skin which is great. No one wants to apply something to your face before bed and have to sit and wait before you can actually put your head on the pillow.

In the morning my face feels refreshed and I can see a difference in reference to my blemishes. The redness is visibly reduced which is a great starting point. It makes them easier to cover up when applying make up. I can't say I can see a huge difference in the size of my spots but this is definitely great for the redness.

Overall this is a nice product to use when you have those pesky red spots that you just can't seem to calm down, this will definitely help you. I've still got mixed reviews on Elemis as a brand but would still love to try some of their other products.
